Choosing Your Wedding Day Look

Written By: Mariana Bedoya

Choosing the right style and inspiration for your bridal look is just as important as choosing a wedding color palette or aesthetic! This particular day should not only be magical and filled with love, but it should also reflect both you, your partner and your styles. You should not only feel like the most beautiful version of yourself, but you should also be comfortable and confident as you walk down the aisle! With that said, it is important to know what style of hair and makeup best suits you and how to choose a look that makes your personality shine.

A Bridal look entails everything from your accessories (Veil, flowers, jewelry, etc.) to hair & makeup, your dream dress, and even your shoes! Sometimes the details of determining your best look is overwhelming, so we suggest you start simple!

One of the best ways to begin choosing your bridal look is to think about your overall vision for your wedding day - the aesthetic, vibe, colors, and time of year will all help guide your final decision. When having a specific theme, it may be a good idea to base your look on those details. Also, when choosing your vision for the day, it’s helpful to consider everything you’ve already solidified (i.e., What type of venue have you decided on? How many guests have you invited? What is the style of your dress?) Try narrowing down your big day into three words. For example, boho, artsy & whimsical, or perhaps modern, clean & elegant, maybe even classic, rustic & romantic. At this point, you can use all these elements to draw inspiration in choosing your perfect look.

Once you have a better idea of the vibe & aesthetic you need to follow, there are a few more questions you should ask yourself to determine your look. For instance, do you feel more comfortable with your hair up or down? Do you wear makeup on a day-to-day basis? Do you want to incorporate your wedding colors into your look? Are you wearing a veil or any other hair accessories?  Remember that even though this is a special day,  it’s okay to step out of your comfort zone. However, choosing a look that makes you feel confident is key! Whether trendy or timeless, you’ll want to look back at photos one day and love how you looked when you married the partner of your dreams!

Now that you’ve decided on a look, here are a few more tips:

  1. Prioritize your skincare routine at least three months before your big day

  2. Drink lots of water (This will help your skin & hair)

  3. Do a hair and face mask every other week and the night before your wedding!

  4. Don’t skip out on a hair and makeup trial.

  5. Have realistic expectations for your hair and makeup look!

Moodboard

PRO TIP: Create a mood board. Most future brides have a Pinterest board chock-full of ideas for wedding decorations and their overall theme, but a hair and makeup mood board will define the vision of how you’ll want to look when saying “I Do.” When creating a beauty board, search for images of people that may have similar features to you. Seeing inspo photos of someone with the same skin tone, hair length & type, eye color, face shape, etc., will help guide your glam expectations and outcome!
